🎯 Goal
Get the right colleagues set up on the right Agents Societies, view who currently holds a seat, and reassign seats as your team changes - all without needing to repurchase.
❓ Why
Society memberships sit at the organisation level as seats, not against individual people. That gives you flexibility - a seat can be reassigned to a different colleague at any time during the membership year without buying a new one. Each Society (OAS, IAS, WEAS, CAS, RLAS) requires a separate seat - a colleague needing OAS and IAS needs a seat in each.
This article covers joining, viewing and assigning Society seats. For the annual renewal process, see Society Membership Renewals and Regaining Access. For moving a seat when a colleague leaves, see Transferring Licences, Memberships and Closing User Accounts.
🔍 Overview
There are three starting points:
My company isn't on Kato yet - contact Kato Support, we will help set up the organisation account.
My company is on Kato but not yet in this Society - your Organisation Admin requests to join, once approved by the society committee, they can purchase seats.
My company is already a member and I just need a seat - your Organisation Admin assigns you one of the existing seats (or buys a new one).
Marketplace access is automatic and does not need approval once you have at least one active Society seat.
📊 Step-by-step
1. Setting up an account if your company isn't on Kato
Email help@kato.app or call 0203 772 8898 with:
Company name
Company website
The societies you'd like access to, and how many seats per society
2. If your company is on Kato - joining a Society
Your Organisation Admin goes to https://settings.kato.app/society/1 and requests to join the Society.
Once approved (up to 24 hours for Committee review), they purchase the required number of seats from the same page.
Use the menu bar at the top of the page to switch between societies if you belong to more than one.
3. Joining when your company is already a member
Contact your Organisation Admin. They can create your user profile (if needed) and assign you one of your organisation's existing seats, or buy a new seat. Not sure who your Admin is? Ask in support.
4. Joining an additional Society when you're already in another
Click Add Society in the top right.
Your Organisation Admin receives a notification to purchase the seat.
5. Viewing or downloading who has Society memberships (Organisation Admin)
Click the three dots next to your name (bottom left).
Go to Organisation Settings → Society tab.
Select the Society at the top.
Click Download for an Excel export.
6. Reassigning a seat between colleagues
Your Organisation Admin transfers the seat from one user to another in Organisation Settings → Users. Because the seat is paid, it remains valid for the rest of the Society year. Seats can be reassigned multiple times in a year. If the outgoing colleague is leaving the business and their records need a new owner, see Transferring Licences, Memberships and Closing User Accounts.
7. Letting other Society members know you've joined (optional)
We can send a new-member announcement to existing Society members. Email Support with the message you'd like sent and we'll send a draft to approve.
✅ You've done it when…
The Society appears in the Society banner or dropdown on your dashboard at https://os.agency.kato.app/society/dashboard.
The Marketplace section is visible in your left-hand navigation.
The new member shows in Organisation Settings → Society tab for that Society.
💡 Common mistakes & pro tips
Marketplace is missing. Only visible to users with at least one active Society seat. If your seat is paid but not assigned to you yet, you won't see it.
Expecting same-day approval. New applications go to the Society Committee - allow up to 24 hours.
Expecting an invoice per person. Society policy is one invoice per company per Society, showing the total seat count.
Each Society is separate. A seat in OAS does not grant access to IAS, WEAS, CAS or RLAS.
Only Organisation Admins can purchase or assign seats. Individual users can't self-serve.
